The people of St. Christopher’s understand that Christ’s mission imperative sends them into the world. That is evident in the amount of money and labor that members of this parish contribute to many and varied projects.
St. Christopher’s is one of the largest donors to many local and international charities and social service agencies. Outreach is a line item in our annual budget.
The people of St. Christopher’s are very active in a number of community civic and outreach programs. These include the following:
Helping Hands Bandera
Arthur Nagle Community Clinic
Girls and Boys Club
Meals on Wheels
Blessings in a Backpack
Brighter Days Horse Refuge
Bandera Fire and Rescue
Arms of Hope
–Honduras: Fr. Allan travels regularly to Honduras with the Manos De Dios (“Hands of God”) team of the Diocese of West Texas. Additionally Manos de Dios offers scholarships to qualified children in Honduras to attend secondary and vocational school. Other members are active in the West Texas Water Well Team. This group works to provide safe drinking water to the people of Honduras by drilling wells in various rural communities.
THE GNADE SCHOLARSHIP TRUST
The estate of Richard Gnade, long time member of St. Christopher’s, was established to provide scholarship assistance to young men from Bandera County, to attend college or university in the state of Texas. High School seniors of any religious denomination, with above average grades, may secure an application from the counselor. Scholarships are awarded at the end of high school, and continue every semester up to 4 years, based on need and academic achievement.
GNADE GRANTS TO PUBLIC LIBRARIES
The Richard Gnade estate also provides grants of roughly $1000 per year to the Bandera Public Library and Medina Public Library. The Rector of St. Christopher’s serves as Chair of the Richard Gnade Scholarship and Library Trust.
